Garlin Gilchrist II is a Leader, Community Organizer, Activist, Engineer, Writer, and Entrepreneur. A native of Detroit, MI, Gilchrist is now based in Seattle, WA. The SuperSpade: Black Thought at the Highest Level is a website Gilchrist created that is devoted to providing critical analysis of political and cultural events; connecting them to peopleas everyday decision making. Garlin is also the Founder and Primary Solution Architect of Opportunity Technology, a technology consulting firm that provides its services to socially responsible individuals, groups, and companies. In addition, Garlin serves as the Senior Policy Analyst for Technology for the Northwest Progressive Institute, and is a Writer/Blog Host for Brave New Films. Garlin also joined the Seattle MESA Advisory Board in 2007, and serves in the capacity of Marketing Committee Chairman.
Garlin Gilchrist II graduated in April 2005 from the University of Michigan (U of M) College of Engineering with B.S.E. degrees in Computer Engineering and Computer Science in Engineering. While at the University of Michigan, Gilchrist served time as President of BEECS, the society for Black Electrical Engineers and Computer Scientists, and as Chairman of HEADS (Here Earning A Destiny through Honesty, Eagerness, and Determination of Self), U of Ms Black male support network. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Gilchrist was a Youth Organizer, Workshop Lead, and Keynote Speaker at the Black Men Taking Responsibility: A Plan for Action symposium in Detroit, MI in November, 2004. As a public speaker, Gilchrist has addressed audiences across the country such as DAPCEP (Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program), NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), NBPC (National Black Programming Consortium), and other groups addressing topics from mental focus, social consciousness, responsible uses of technology, to strategies to achieve academic excellence. Garlin is also the co-founder of a group called Partners for Success, a juvenile re-entry program in Detroit, MI.
Garlin Gilchrist II has been actively traveling and presenting to groups around the country, and continually does workshops and presentations at educational, professional, social, political, and spiritual gatherings. Some of Garlins current activities include:
